The Lakes Area Mat Rats was formed
23 years ago by a group of parents who wanted to give kids from Backus
to Pequot Lakes, Pine River to Crosslake, and everywhere in between,
the opportunity to participate in a wrestling program with a foundation
built on respect, sportsmanship, team spirit, and commitment. At Lakes
Area Mat Rats we appreciate and encourage parent participation. For
over two decades it is you, the parents, who have allowed us to grow
and develop into the successful organization we are today. Many thanks
for all your hard work and support.

Dear Parents:
Often it is easy to overlook the commitment of our coaches and parent volunteers. Sometimes we need to take a moment to recognize their efforts, which, in this Officer's opinion, stands alone as an exemplary example of teamwork, dedication and a true extended family. At the Sebeka tournament on March 20th we had 27 LAMR wrestlers. It was a sea of LAMR singlets, which if I reflect on the season, is not an uncommon turnout, and I believe that credit for this has to go to Roy and Brian for the program that they have created, and the parents who make it happen week after week. To say our coaches were busy and hoarse is an understatement. Since November last year I can't think of a tournament that our coaches have not been there to support our wrestlers. Pause for a moment and think of the commitment that takes, for them and their families. Three nights a week and every weekend for 5 months. That's impressive.
The dedication of our coaches is contagious and brings a certain comfort and encouragement for our parents to be as involved as they choose. At Sebeka I witnessed LAMR parents and family stepping up at every corner to be with wrestlers on the mat. Helping the coaches coach so every LAMR wrestler was supported on the mat. I am proud to be a part of such a caring and involved group.
Mike Gravdahl is an experienced wrestler himself and a great person to have mat side with your child (also official photographer and mat washer where he also excels)
Rick Philipson is a scoring genius and has an uncanny ability to watch almost every match simlutaneously and correct errors.
Ron Koering is a great resource for the kids and a dedicated help to the coaches during practice.
Darien Rubner is a wealth of experience and knowledge and a fabulous role model for the young kids.
Triston Ruber is an awesome wrestler with a kind spirit. A great sportsman, gentleman, and coach to the kids.
Gary Carlson (Offical First Lady of the club) cares about every kid out there and always willing to be mat side to help and coach each kid.
Mike Hruby, an experienced wrestler and a great guy and mat side coach with an unending patience and huge heart.
And a shout out to Jenny Gravdahl and Dawn Rubner who look out and support each wrestler like their own.
As our season comes to an end I want to thank everyone who makes this club possible, and everyone who makes it so fabulous.
